just take a look at the recent youth challenge where a certain mr l made into one of the sub headlines on the straits times. and check out the tt durai nkf incident. both of them share a similarity. a major one.

both are the heads of a charitable organization in singapore. both held senior positions in their respective organization. both seem to live a extravaganza lifestyle which was never really accounted until recently. both draw a fat paycheck went unchecked.

hmmm…. it seems, the word ‘charity’ has taken a new meaning to its own.

  1. Provision of help or relief to the poor; almsgiving.
  2. Something given to help the needy; alms.
  3. An institution, organization, or fund established to help the needy.

  1. relief to the rich, richgiving
  2. Something given to the corrupted
  3. An institution, organization, or fund established to help the corrupted

how interesting?

now the real small time charity houses like SAGE, MINDS, Kindey Centres are the one who are suffering the consequences…

at least, they can no longer do this:-

“it’s for charity. please donate for a good cause”

for now, charity simplies makes everyone turn their heads off, with a firm negative perception that everyone of them are hoaxs.

it’s the same here in school. there was this little organization that was raising funds for a certain community. they were saying:-

“it’s for charity, please”
“could you spare a minute? this is for charity” etc etc…

passerbys heard the magical word ‘charity’ and sulked. walked off.

not one, but two and three and four…

late for lecture, his highness could help but ponder.  and when it was his turn to face the ‘it’s for charity. he smile and walk away, all the while happening to be holding this newspaper that was featuring another another charity scam.

dinner at bugis. a group of artists were performing at the venue. they were moving around, playing on the guitar and a few were doing an acapella. and it went,

“it’s for charity …” and stuck a poorly printed form to fill in a donation amount…

and instantly, a frown came on the face. and everyone ignored them.

not one, but two  but more than three tables…

now… aren’t the word ‘charity’ dirty or what?

ZzzzZ… since, it made everyone switched off…
